Summer Schedules

This page is here to provide some general information regarding our summer schedules! 

May
1st
Per CIF Rules, Coaches are not allowed to communicate with incoming, enrolled families regarding their programs and schedules until AFTER May 1st going into the fall that they are enrolling for. If you email a coach prior to May 1st and they do not respond, or you get a response from the Athletic Director instead, it is due to this rule. 

Start of Summer 
With our graduation date being Friday, June 6th, our Summer officially begins on Saturday, June 7th. The EARLIEST that an incoming student can begin participating in practices or workouts with their new school is when BOTH their current school AND their new school have finished their current school year. So, if you are an incoming freshman this upcoming fall, both your 8th grade school year and our current school year have to be finished before you can begin to attend practices. That said, the earliest date any new student can begin to attend workouts at Bishop is Saturday, June 1st. 

Dead Period
Each year, CIF requires that each school take a “Dead Period”, which is a period of 14 consecutive days where the school must shut down all athletic activities, including strength and conditioning. Our Dead Period this summer is from Monday, June 30th through Sunday, July 13th. 

Athletic Clearance
Please plan to complete all of your Athletic Clearance and Sports Physicals during the summer months so that they are completed for the entire school year. Please visit this link (https://www.bishopdiego.org/athletics/resources/athletic-clearance) for more information.

Girls Basketball
The Girls Basketball program will be practicing Mondays 3:00-5:00 and Tuesdays 4:00-6:00 on campus through July 30th. Please contact Coach Jeff Burich if you have any questions!

Cheerleading
The Cheer program will hold 3 days of practices in June: Monday, June 10th, Tuesday, June 11th and Wednesday, June 12th from 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM. Uniform orders will need to be placed by Wednesday, June 12th in order to be delivered by our first football game! Then practices will resume starting Tuesday, July 16th and will go Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM on campus through the rest of the summer. There is also Cheer Camp from July 25th-28th. Please contact Coach Tiffany Rochel if you have any questions!

Girls Flag Football
ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL!?
 
Flag Football practice begins on in August. Never played football before? No problem, this unique style of football is easy to learn and fun to play. With that said football requires significant running and dynamic movement, so being prepared is key to staying healthy, avoiding injury, and having fun. 
 
Here is a link for a body weight workout that will help you prepare for the level of conditioning that Flag Football will involve. You should follow along with the video and try to keep up the pace. If you cannot perform full push ups, do half push ups or hold a plank for the duration of the push up time. The video/workout is only 20 minutes long, so each player should do this workout once a day combined with some sort of jogging/running for 2 - 4 miles. Players run an average of 4 - 6 miles per game, so beginning now is critical to being game ready for the season and avoid injury. 
 
Example: Morning: video workout + 2 miles jog; Evening: 2 mile light jog
 
Football is played outside, so it is best to train outside to get used to the conditions you will be playing in. It is also a team sport, so training with teammates always helps you stay motivated.

Football
Football begins summer practices on Monday, June 3 and generally will go on weekdays until the season starts (except for a couple weekend events for varsity players and except for the dead period described above).

Typically, the JV team will start daily at 3:00 PM in the weight room and will transition to the field around 4:00 PM, where practices will go through 5:30/6:00 PM.  Again, students new to Bishop must have completed their current school year prior to participating in practices.

The Varsity team will practice at 2:00 PM on Monday and Friday starting in the weight room and ending on the field approximately 5:30 PM. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, the team will be in the Weight Room from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM then return to the field at 3:00 PM for practice until approximately 5:30 PM. On Wednesdays, the team will either arrive at 2:00 PM for film/classroom sessions or 3:00 PM for practice.

Also during the summer, the JV and/or Varsity teams will compete versus local high schools in 7on7 competitions from time to time in lieu of field practices described above. This schedule will be sent to all families participating in football as the summer gets closer.

Football players should attend practices daily in workout attire, with both tennis shoes (for the weight room), cleats (for field practice), and any other equipment needed.

Softball
Softball will start up on July 15th. Practices will be Tuesdays-Thursdays. See the below schedule for details. In the fall, practices/workouts will be 2x per week after school likely on Mondays and Wednesdays. If you are playing a fall sport, you are not expected to attend practice but it would be great to have you out there from time to time.

Girls Tennis
Girls Tennis will start on Tuesday August 12th.  Practice times will vary the first 2 weeks so everyone can make orientations and other events as needed.

Beginning the week of August 25th:
-Mon-Wed 3:30-5:00
-Thursday 2:00-3:30 (unless no early out-then 3:30-5:00)
-Friday practices are optional 3:30-5:00.
The First Match is scheduled for Sept 3rd. 

Girls Volleyball
Girls Volleyball practice for returning varsity players will begin on July 28th at 1:00. Evaluations/team placement for all players will be July 28th-July 31st from 3:00-5:00pm. Please contact Coach Dillan Bennett if you have any questions!

Boys Beach Volleyball
Boys Beach Volleyball practice:
-July 28th - 31st from 9:00-11:00
-August 4th - 6th from 9:00-11:00
