Summer Schedules

This page is here to provide some general information regarding our summer schedules! 

May
1st
Per CIF Rules, Coaches are not allowed to communicate with incoming, enrolled families regarding their programs and schedules until AFTER May 1st going into the fall that they are enrolling for. If you email a coach prior to May 1st and they do not respond, or you get a response from the Athletic Director instead, it is due to this rule. 

Start of Summer 
With our graduation date being Friday, June 2nd, our Summer officially begins on Saturday, June 3rd. The EARLIEST that an incoming student can begin participating in practices or workouts with their new school is when BOTH their current school AND their new school have finished their current school year. So, if you are an incoming freshman this upcoming fall, both your 8th grade school year and our current school year have to be finished before you can begin to attend practices. That said, the earliest date any new student can begin to attend workouts at Bishop is Saturday, June 4th. 

Dead Period
Each year, CIF requires that each school take a “Dead Period”, which is a period of 14 consecutive days where the school must shut down all athletic activities, including strength and conditioning. Our Dead Period this summer is from Monday, June 26th through Sunday, July 9th. 

Athletic Clearance
Please plan to complete all of your Athletic Clearance and Sports Physicals during the summer months so that they are completed for the entire school year. Please visit this link (https://www.bishopdiego.org/athletics/resources/athletic-clearance) for more information.

Baseball

Boys Basketball

The Boys Basketball program will be practicing Mondays on campus from 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM, starting on June 5th through July 24th (with the exception of the two weeks during the Dead Period). In addition, the Varsity team will be competing in the Summer League on campus on Wednesday nights. The JV team will also compete in the Dos Pueblos Summer League, with games on Tuesday and Thursday nights. More info about both summer leagues will be sent out by Coach Coronado as the summer approaches.

Girls Basketball
The Girls Basketball program will be practicing Monday/Wednesday/Friday on campus from 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM from Monday, June 5th through Friday, June 23rd. Please contact Coach Burich if you have any questions!

Cheerleading
The Cheer program will hold 3 days of practices in June, on Monday, June 12th-Wednesday, June 14th from 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM on campus. Uniform orders will need to be placed by Wednesday, June 14th in order to be delivered by our first football games! Then practices will resume starting Monday, July 10th and will go Monday through Thursday, from 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM on campus through the balance of the summer. Cross Country

Football
Football will begin summer practices on Monday, June 5th and will go on weekdays (except during the dead period).

The JV team will start daily at 3:00 PM in the weight room and will transition to the field around 4:00 PM, where practices will go through 5:30 PM.

he Varsity team will arrive at 2:00 PM on Monday and Friday starting in the weight room and will end on the field by 5:30 PM. Tuesdays and Thursdays the team will be in the Weight Room from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM then return to the field at 3:00 PM for practice until 5:30 PM. On Wednesdays, the team will either arrive at 2:00 PM for film/classroom sessions or 3:00 PM for practice.

On certain days, the JV and/or Varsity teams will compete versus local high schools in 7on7 competitions in lieu of formal practices. This schedule will be sent to all families participating in football as the summer gets closer.

Football players should attend practices daily with both tennis shoes (for the weight room), workout attire, cleats (for field practice), and any other equipment needed.

Boys Soccer

Softball
Softball begins Monday, June 5th and will continue 3-5 weekdays per week throughout the summer (except during the dead period). After the dead period, we will aim to scrimmage once per week until school begins. Email Coach MeLinda mmatsumoto@bishopdiego.org for details.
  • Mon, Wed, Fri - Weight room session 12:00-1:00 followed by practice from 1:00-3:00
  • Tues, Thurs - Agilities and Plyometrics 12:00-1:00 followed by practice 1:00-3:00
Boys Tennis
The Boys Tennis team will practice Tuesday, July 25, Thursday, July 27, and then each day the week of July 31-August 4th at Bishop Diego HS. Times are TBD and will be communicated out by Coach Kirkwood as those dates approach.

Girls Tennis
The Girls Tennis team will practice the week of July 17th - 21st as well as Monday, July 24th and Wednesday, July 26th at Bishop Diego HS. Times are TBD and will be communicated out by Coach Kirkwood as those dates approach.

Girls Volleyball
The Girls Volleyball program will begin their summer conditioning sessions on Monday, July 24th and will be Monday-Thursday from 9:00 AM - 10:30 AM. Players will meet in the weight room. Returning Varsity Players will begin practices that same day from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM, Monday - Thursday. Please contact Coach Dillan Bennett if you have any questions!
