Alumna Spotlight: Grace (Wilkinson) Gil '19 Debuts Solo Exhibition
BDHS Alumni Relations
Alumna Grace Gil '19 recently held her first solo art exhibition, Interpersonal Vandalism, at Backstage Studio in Dallas, Texas. The show featured approximately 20 pieces.
Grace earned her BFA in Studio Art, with a concentration in painting, from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2024. Her work has been shown across the DFW area, including at the Arlington Museum of Art and, most recently, Ro2 Art Gallery and the Latino Cultural Center. In 2025, she received the Arch and Anne Giles Kimbrough Award from the Dallas Museum of Art.
Grace's love of art and design has shaped a distinctive creative voice, one that explores the personal relationships we hold with ourselves and with the people who weave through our lives.
Mrs. Sodusta remembers Grace as a kind and creative student: "She was very talented and put in great effort, excelling quietly and humbly with a sweet, gentle smile on her face. Her work spoke loudly and stood out for itself! She was especially great at rendering shiny objects with sharp changes in value, and it's fun to see that still highlighted and shining through (pun intended) in some of her current pieces. It is so beautiful to watch her style develop across different mediums as she uses her artistic voice. What a special show!"
In Interpersonal Vandalism, Grace examines the messy, convoluted nature of intimacy, grappling with feelings at every point where they exist. Heartache, love, and attitude take center stage, rendered through imagery, text, and intuitive process to capture an emotional tug-of-war within a space of unfiltered honesty. Created from a pop-punk, girly perspective, these paintings form a visual diary that invites conversation with others while saying nothing to them at all.
