55th Annual Alumni Basketball Game a Slam Dunk

Saturday, August 29 Rich Georgi '74 brought members of the Cardinal family home, hosting the 55th Annual Alumni Basketball Game and welcoming peers from the classes of the 70s back to the court where it all began. The Brick House held strong once more, with standout players Dave Catherina, Marty Simpson, Elmer McPhail, and Dave and Doug Haake carrying on a tradition decade in the making.

Assisting from the sidelines were fellow alumni; names woven into the long standing legacy of this school: Bohnett, LaBarge, Ontiveros, Michaud, Lennon-Newswanger, Cashman, Pivato, Bittle, Robitaille, Hummel, Watson, Wynne, Henderson, Ceriale, and McCune.

The Cardinals battled through 15 minute running clock quarters, playing with the same pride and enthusiasm that defined them decades ago. A few regular players were sidelined by last minute injuries, but Dave Haake's college track teammate, Elmer McPhail, stepped in to keep a 3-on-3 game alive. Coach Simpson took the court despite recent surgery and still walked away with the Players' Choice Award, proof that heart never retires.

When the final buzzer sounded, players, family, and fans gathered once more, refueling with a delicious postgame BBQ courtesy of Cardinal Chefs classmates — a fitting end to a day that felt, if only for a few hours, like coming home.
