Biography:
Where did you attend college and what degree(s) did you earn?
B.A. in Modern Languages and Literatures at Cal Poly, SLO; M.A. in Spanish at CSU Long Beach; PhD in Spanish at Emory University
Where did you grow up?
Oakdale, CA
What classes do you teach/what sports do you coach/what is your role at Bishop?
I teach Spanish -- Spanish 1, 2, 3 and Honors 3
Tell us about your family
I have a small, precious family. My husband's name is Chris and our beautiful, active little boy is named William
What drew you to Bishop?
The supportive community, rigorous academics, and focus on character building
What book are you reading, or have you currently read and what is it about?
The Wave in the Mind by Ursula Le Guin, one of the most talented writers I've ever read. This book is a collection of meditations, essays, and talks about the reader, writer, and the imagination.
If you could have dinner with anyone past or present, who would it be and why?
Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, the 17th-century intellectual -- and I would ask her about the times she dressed as a man to visit libraries!
Where would we find you when you are not at work? Where is your favorite place in the world?
You can find me at the beach with my family on the weekends. My favorite place in the world is Salamanca, Spain.
What is your favorite Bible verse or inspirational quote?
There are so many to choose from! Here's one for language, "If you talk to a man in a language that he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart." --Nelson Mandela
Who has had the biggest impact on you?
College professors who mentored me and gave me the confidence and knowledge to pursue my passions in education and in my life.
What advice would you give to a new Bishop student?
Get involved in everything that interests you, dedicate yourself to your classes because you're responsible for your own academic success, and even try something new!
