The School’s Governance

On July 1, 2005, the school became an independent, not for profit, Catholic high school serving the needs of the broader community. Bishop García Diego High School, Inc., is a non-profit religious corporation that is tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as amended, and Section 23701 of the California Revenue and Taxation Code. A local Board of Trustees governs the school.

Joe Salcedo

Board Chair

salcedo Joe graduated from Bishop High School in 1987 and is married to Teri (VanSon). They have three children, two who have graduated from Bishop, and the third is in the class of 2018.  Joe has volunteered and held leadership positions with many organizations in the community, including the Chamber of Commerce, Red Cross, United Cerebral Palsy, and SB YFL.

Joe is the Registered Investment Advisor, Owner of JS Strategic Advisors, which manages Investment Portfolios for individual, corporations, endowments and trusts.

 Joe's involvement at Bishop is his way to give back to the Great School that helped him grow academically and spiritually.

Robert Forouzandeh


robert Robert Forouzandeh is a Litigation Partner at Reicker, Pfau, Pyle & McRoy, LLP, Santa Barbara’s Premier Business Law Firm.  Robert acts as outside general counsel for small and medium businesses and advises them on their day to day operations, executing their strategic vision and best practices to avoid litigation.  He also litigates corporate, business, real estate and employer-side employment disputes. 

Robert graduated from Bishop Garcia Diego High School in 1999 and was born and raised in Santa Barbara.  Robert played varsity football, soccer and baseball for Bishop and was named to the All Tri-Valley League, First Team in baseball his senior year.  Robert and his wife have two young children.  Robert is an avid golfer.

Mario Coronado



Mario Coronado is a 9 year resident of Santa Barbara and has been blessed with 22 years of marriage to SB native Theresa Bohnett. Theresa is a graduate of Bishop Diego along with 12 of her siblings. Mario is a product of Catholic education. For the last 30 years Mario has worked in the technology industry both as a computer programmer and a project/program manager.

Mario believes very much in the importance and value of Catholic education in Santa Barbara. His children are both graduates of St. Raphael school and are currently enrolled at Bishop. Mario was involved with the Development committee at St. Raphael and is currently on its school board. Mario has been involved in the golf committee at Bishop and is actively involved with the Bishop Cardinal Club. Mario just completed two 3 years terms on the St. Raphael Parish Council.

Tom Johnson


Dr. John Kelly

kelly Dr. John P. J. Kelly was born and raised in London, England. He holds Bachelors and Master degrees in Mathematics from the University of Cambridge, and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from UCLA where he was a Regents Fellow. He was a University of California tenured professor, serving first in the Computer Science Department at UCLA and then in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at UCSB.

He is the CEO of the Santa Barbara Technology Group, Inc., a technology research and intellectual property consulting firm that consults for government and industry. The firm’s government clients include NASA, NATO, US FAA, US Dept. of Defense, and US Dept. of Energy. Corporate clients include Apple, Alphabet (Google), Amazon, CISCO, Ford Motors, IBM, Intel, Microsoft, Samsung, Sony, Toyota and many others.

Dr. Kelly has led teams that designed and built hardware and software for a USAF fighter plane, a distributed real-time system for air traffic control in the US, a distributed geographical information system for the Department of Energy, and the first distributed ATM network for Citibank. Over the last 40 years he has worked on well over 200 high technology projects.

He and his wife, Michelle, have been happily married for over 25 wonderful years. They have three children ¬ Jack, BDHS Class of 2015, Clare is a current Bishop student and Sean is at Marymount.

Kathy Koeper


Edward Leicht

leicht Ed Leicht is Chief Operating Officer at Implantech Associates, Inc., a private medical device company located in Ventura, CA.   He has been an active parishioner of Saint Raphael Church since moving to Goleta in 1988, sat on various Councils and Committees at the parish, and  until recently was an adult leader for Boy Scout Troop 105. 

Ed and his wife Jacqui have three children, all of whom have graduated from Saint Raphael School and progressed to Bishop Garcia Diego High School (class of 2010, 2011, 2016). Ed and his wife were active volunteers for many BGDHS sports teams and school events from 2006 until 2016, and Jacqui was the treasurer for the Parent Board from 2012 until 2016.   After their youngest daughter graduated from Bishop, Ed and Jacqui relocated to Oak View to be closer to Ed’s company.  In their spare time, Ed and Jacqui enjoy boating, golfing (well, only Ed), and wine tasting.

Rev. Msgr. Jon F. Majarucon

majarucon Is the Pastor of Saint Raphael’s Catholic Church in Goleta. He grew up in Oxnard and is the second of 9 children. He was ordained in 1984.  He spent 13 of his 31 years of priesthood as a High School teacher, coach, administrator and Principal. He was named Pastor of Santa Clara Church in Oxnard (13 years) and served as Dean of Deanery III, Archdiocesan Priest Council and Personnel Board (8 years)  He was named a “Monsignor” (with Msgr Dick Martini), in 2010 by Pope Benedict.

While he is comfortable in the classroom, with students and teachers, he is very thankful to be a Parish priest once more. He is an instrument rated Pilot, avid fisherman, (deep sea), and Blue grass aficionado. He enjoys playing a 5-string Gibson Banjo which aggravates his brother priests.

Msgr. Dick Martini

martini Monsignor Dick Martini is Pastor of St. Joseph Parish in Carpinteria.  Ordained in 1980 as a priest of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, he subsequently earned a Master’s degree in Education Administration and served 10 years in High School Ministry.

Monsignor Martini grew up in Pacific Palisades.  His family often vacationed in Santa Barbara.  Prior to his assignment in Carpinteria, Msgr. Martini was Chair of the Council of Priests and coordinated leadership training for priests and their staffs.  Animating parishes with the New Evangelization is one of his passions, so he coordinates a training called Parish Missionary Disciples.  He enjoys riding his bicycle and looks forward to completing the final stage of a cross-country trek.

Hector H. Mon

mon Hector Mon is a former casino president, now independent management consultant and educator.
During his career Hector oversaw twelve different casino properties in six states and had responsibility for as many as 7,000 employees and $1 billion in revenue. Alongside of that, he led corporate initiatives related to brand marketing, customer relationship management, executive development, and performance analysis. Lastly, he directed numerous casino, hotel, and restaurant design and construction projects.

 With respect to professional credentials, Hector holds a master’s degree in organization development from the Pepperdine University business school, to which he returned in 2011 as an adjunct professor. In 2013 he was certified as an expert witness by the Federal Court in Delaware and was retained to provide consulting services on two bankruptcy cases.

In terms of outside roles, Hector served as chairman of the Nevada Resort Association, the trade group that represents the state’s casino industry. In addition, he was a founding member of the National Airlines board of directors, Nevada state chair of the U.S. Winter Olympic fundraising committee, and trustee of the UNLV Foundation and Rutgers University Board of Regents.

Finally, Hector was born in Cuba and is fluent in Spanish. He and his wife, Claire Bohnett (Bishop class of 1981), have two children, Sheila and Nicolas (Bishop 2012).

Rhys Williams

williams Rhys Williams is a native of the UK. Rhys is an Executive Director, Global Health Economics at Amgen Inc (one of the world’s largest Biotechnology companies).  He started his career at Aetna health plans and has worked for JNJ, BMS and Pfizer prior to joining Amgen in 2006.

Rhys is married to Jamie Ruffing and has two children, Cory who is currently a senior at Bishop Garcia Diego High School and Luke who is a freshman.    Rhys has lived in Santa Barbara for 10 years where he enjoys playing tennis, coaching AYSO soccer and youth rugby.  He also serves on the Board of Trustees at Santa Barbara Youth Rugby and Santa Barbara Polo and Racquet Club.
