Bishop Diego Summer Athletic Programs

Congratulations on completing the 2018-19 school year! One of the benefits of attending Bishop is that students have the opportunity to participate in and experience different activities, including athletics. In that regard, I’d like you to consider becoming a member of our summer athletic programs and I invite you to participate in our summer athletic summer activities. CIF rules state that students must graduate from 8th grade prior to participating in high school summer programs.

To prepare for the upcoming season, we hold summer conditioning practices for many of our sporting programs to help players learn skills and develop the conditioning necessary for performance and injury prevention. Since many of our incoming freshmen are experiencing organized sports for the first time, emphasis at the Junior Varsity level is placed on learning safe fundamentals and acquiring knowledge and skills.

We recognize, of course, that vacations may have already been scheduled which could impact your ability to attend practice either at the start of summer or during a part of it. We also recognize that some of our sports programs may present conflicts. PLEASE do not let that discourage you from participating in our summer athletic programs. Coaches of all Bishop sports conducting summer programs are to ensure that you have the opportunity to participate in any sport which you would like to try and, in fact, summer practices have been scheduled, whenever possible, to avoid conflicts. Accordingly, if you can’t make practice at the start of summer or must miss a portion of the summer due to other plans, I would encourage you to contact the coach so that we can acknowledge your interest. Below is a list the various summer programs we offer and contact information for the coach. Please email the coach directly for information regarding their summer program.

As you may know, Bishop has a rich athletic tradition and I would certainly like to see you as part of that tradition. Accordingly, I look forward to seeing you on the court or the field. Should you have questions in the meantime, feel free to contact me at 805-967-1266, ext. 113.

Thank you for your interest in being part of our football family.  Below are the tentative dates of practice for both our varsity and junior varsity levels.  There typically are adjustments made depending on passing league events or tournaments as well as to ensure there is no conflict with practices by other Bishop sports teams.  More detailed information will be sent to newly registered students at the beginning of May.  New players to the program, including incoming freshmen and transfer students, are welcome to join us after completing their school year AND their registration.  To get started, workout shorts, tennis shoes and cleats are required.  Information on purchasing spirit pack items will be provided in the near future.

Boys Basketball

As the Head Coach of the Bishop Diego High School Basketball Program, I would like to welcome everyone to our 2018 Summer Basketball Season. Attached, you will find a summer schedule that will best prepare our players for the upcoming 2018-19 basketball season.

As a parent myself, I know how busy summers can be but I would appreciate commitment from all parties involved, staff included. Summer basketball plays an important role in the success of our program. Hard work, dedication, and a commitment to each other will go a long way to strengthening our bond as a team and family. I take much pride in my work and I put my best efforts into teaching young adults the game of basketball. My goal is to help all our children not only become great players but more importantly great responsible adults.

We will begin summer practices on Tuesday, June 12th. We will practice mostly on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:00-2:00pm with a few optional “Open Gym” opportunities on Sundays from 6-8pm throughout the summer. We will also compete in summer league games and possibly one or two tournaments until the last week of July. Families should try to plan vacations and trips around these dates whenever possible. During summer, we will be implementing our offensive and defensive systems, improving fundamentals and conditioning, building team cohesiveness and camaraderie, and evaluating our strengths and areas for improvement.

We are huge TEAM FIRST coaches, and we feel together a team can do so much more together than any one person alone. Wins and Losses will come and go, but our ultimate goal is to get our kids to play their best per man as well as a team.

We appreciate your support in accomplishing our goals, and we want everyone to know we are available to discuss any part of our philosophy, coaching style, or anything in general. We take the responsibility of a coach very seriously and passionately. We working for each and every one of your children, so anything we can do to improve we are willing to listen.

Thanks for your time,

James A. Coronado
