In the world of schools, July 1 is the start of a new year! As we begin this 2012-2013 school year, please join me in welcoming some great new (and some familiar) faces!
Rachael Manzo, BDHS Class of 2006, returns to us as Assistant to the Head of School and the Office of Advancement. Rachael earned her BS in Liberal Studies from California Lutheran University and more recently earned her multiple subject teaching credential. Rachael has worked in a variety of service-minded positions, including work as a pastoral intern, peer advisor and co-instructor of a college freshmen seminar course, and a live-in nanny. Rachael has volunteered in Mexico for peace and justice, for Habitat for Humanity, and a woman’s shelter, among others. Welcome back, Rachael! Yolanda Salgado-Tovar, BDHS Class of 1984, also returns to her alma mater as our Director of Admission, Public and Alumni Relations. Yolanda comes with BAs in Psychology and Chicano Studies from UCSB and an MEd from the University of San Diego. An educator at heart, Yolanda earned her multiple subject teaching credential and her preliminary administrative services certificate. Mrs. Tovar brings over twenty years of experience working with students and families from Kindergarten through college. Most recently, Yolanda worked as the communications manager and admissions coordinator at the Adizes Graduate School in Carpinteria. She has also worked at Antioch University, Santa Barbara County’s Office of Education in the BTSA office, and the Cesar Chavez Charter School. Welcome back, Yolanda! Carly Gerthoffer joins the Cardinal family as our Receptionist. A Santa Barbara native and graduate of San Marcos High School, Carly has participated in many community activities, including the Santa Barbara Zoo Camp, Aqua Camps, and enjoys playing hockey! Most recently, Carly worked for the City of Santa Barbara in the parking division. She also has considerable experience as an office assistant and in various customer service settings. Rowena Spence joins our faculty as a Resource Specialist. Rowena has a BA in Political Science from Cal Poly SLO and an MA in Education from Azusa Pacific University. Further, she has a Level II Education Specialist Instruction Credential. For the past eight years, Rowena has worked as a Resource Specialist and English Teacher at Santa Barbara High School. She also has experience as a curriculum specialist for the school district and a Camp Director at Westmont. Rowena brings her experiences and talents to our resource program this August.
