Athletics » Athletic Training
Athletic participation is on the rise at Bishop Diego. Over the past 10 years Bishop Diego has added a number of sports for both boys and girls in order to serve the interests of the students who wish to become involved in athletics.
Almost 6 million student athletes participate in high school sports programs nationwide. The increase in the number of students participating plus the rapid developmental changes in the bodies of young athletes is the reason Bishop Diego along with Elite Performance & Rehabilitation Center has taken steps to ensure the health, safety and enjoyment of the athlete's participation by providing the school with a Certified Athletic Trainer.
Even under ideal situations, anyone who engages in physical activity is subject to the possibility of injury. According to the National Athletic Trainers' Association, over 1.3 million student-athletes (about 1 out of every 7) are injured each year. Fortunately, the vast majority of these injuries are minor. With proper training, conditioning, instruction, diet, and rest habits many of these potential injures can be eliminated or significantly reduced.

Athletic Training Room
The ATC is available to students on days of practice from the hours of 2:15 p.m. to approximately 6:15 p.m. At this time injured students receive therapy in the training room when necessary. Due to limitations with equipment, some students require additional assistance from a physical therapy or sports medicine center. The ATC is responsible for the following:
Prevention, recognition, and evaluation of sports related injuries
Pre-event taping
Wrapping and/or padding
Wound and Blister care
Counseling
Rehabilitation from injuries
Therapy
Application of emergency life saving techniques
Act as a liaison between the athlete, parents and the team physician
Under the current guidelines, unfortunately not all games can be covered by the ATC. All Varsity Football games, home and away, are covered. An attempt will be made to attend all other home games.
The Athletic Training Room is located on the back side of gym. There is an entrance through the hallway next to the boys locker room.
