6th Annual Alumni Tailgate Party

On Saturday, November 7, 2009 the Alumni Association hosted their Annual Tailgate Party held at the La Playa Stadium parking lot. Over two hundred Cardinal fans, alumni and families gathered together to support Bishop García Diego HS.

In preparation for the big rival football game against Carpinteria High School many Bishop Alumni and families celebrated in a traditional tailgate manner. The Verhasselt family brought their grill to warm up lip-smacking' ribs with corn muffins, potato salad and many other goodies.  The Salgado Family pulled out the gas BBQ to grill sausages and tri-tip along with all the fixings including a giant bag of chips. Their RED truck displayed game jerseys and spirit week t-shirts from the past. 

Thirty-seven classmates from the Class of ’69 gathered in the parking lot to talk about old times and share their favorite tailgate goodies.  Cars were pulled in backwards for people to sit on the edge of their trucks, beach chairs were placed around the area and of course Peter Georgi ’72 and family were prepared with folding chairs, table, red table cloth and candles! 

Bishop Alum, Yolanda (Angel) Magana ’84, owner of the Laguna Store and Deli provided a special ‘Taco Truck” for the event.  Yolanda and her crew served up over 300 soft tacos to the tailgate crowd.  The line was never-ending as Yolanda served asada, chicken, adobada and carnitas with a complete salsa bar! 

On display was the 2010 Prius II that will be raffled off Saturday, November 14, 2009 at the Annual Cardinal Club Event; A Fundraiser for Bishop Athletics.

Cardinal Spirit gear was also available for sale during the event. Arlene Figone ’60, who handles all apparel sales for BGDHS at home football games and other special events, supervised two tables filled with BGDHS items.
