Cardinal Event

The Cardinal Club hosted their annual Cardinal Event on Saturday, November 15, 2008.  This annual event is the Cardinal Club’s main fundraiser for the year with proceeds going to  support Cardinal Athletic programming. 

For many years this event was called the Special Event.  In recent years the Cardinal Club moved to tie the event more closely to their identity so now, it’s the Cardinal Event!  For newer families to the school, the Cardinal Event is one of the best deals in town!  A raffle ticket for $150.00 will provide you and a guest with admission into the event where table after table is filled with hearty hor d’oeuvres while all beverages are provided from soft drinks to open bar fare and on to select wines courtesy of Fess Parker winery.   Included in the one ticket price is an opportunity to win at the CASH drawings AND the MAIN PRIZE drawing, which this year was a glossy red 2009 Jeep Wrangler X Model.  The main prize winner also had the option of NOT choosing the car but taking a $20,000 cash prize instead.

With over six hundred raffle tickets sold and over three hundred people attending the night of the MAIN PRIZE DRAWING, the school’s gym was filled with excitement and anticipation for who the WINNER would be!  There were thirty-six CASH prize winners with a grand total of $4,800 being distributed.  As the barrel spun for the MAIN PRIZE drawing the gym grew very quiet in anticipation. Fr. Tom reached in the barrel, swirled his hand around, took a deep breath and pulled out ONE magical ticket with the family name of NEVAREZ!  The Nevarez Family, new to the school this year were overjoyed to hear the news that they had won!  After careful consideration, the Nevarez family decided to take the 2009 Jeep Wrangler X Model.

The Cardinal Club raised approximately $55,000 (net) during the evening  to support the school’s athletic programming.  The Club members continue their efforts during the year to raise additional funds for these programs. 

In addition to the evening’s prizes, the Junior Class hosted its own raffle, selling tickets by arm (wing span) width, by body wrap (mummy style) length and then for the big spenders, by gym length! All proceeds go to the students’ prom.  Ticket holders then were seen splitting yards of tickets, while retaining one set for the drawings to be held.  Winners needed to be present to claim their prizes.  Ticket holders then busily stuffed containers for drawings of their preferred prizes.  Prizes included vacation stays at resorts and a variety of food, wine and gift baskets.

Thank you to the following individuals and community businesses assisting with the event and/or providing donations to make this event as fun and as profitable as it could be:  Santa Barbara Chrysler Jeep and Dodge, Fess Parker Winery, Robitaille’s Fine Candies, Karleskint Catering Company, Albertsons, The Parent Board, The Junior Class, Carolyn Taylor, Bishop parent volunteers and of course the Cardinal Club Officers and parent and Bishop staff volunteers.
