What is Annual Giving?
Annual giving is the basis of a comprehensive development program in any school. It helps sustain programs and activities that are not covered by tuition. Simply, annual giving is the best way possible for parents, alumni, grandparents, of alumni, board members, faculty, staff and friends to help make a financial difference in the future of Bishop García Diego High School. Your investment on an annual basis through an annual fund contribution, at a level that you are comfortable with, will help to raise necessary funds for important school objectives.
The Annual Fund is made up of annual gifts from the above mentioned constituents. The unrestricted funds are added to the general fund of the schools budget for use in:
- Meeting current operating expenses
- Maintaining the physical plant
- Enhancing the programs and services offered to our students
Traditionally, strong institutions have strong annual funds. Catholic Independent schools should be no different than any other school, college or university. An annual gift to the operating budget is a tangible vote of confidence in your schools total program.
Why is Annual Giving necessary?
Bishop needs and deserves your support. Our annual fund program is necessary to sustain the life of the school through enriched academic programs, faculty development and enhancements to technology and the overall physical plant. Tuition can not cover all the goals that we would like to achieve as we begin the 21st century. Your child’s education is financed by both your tuition and your annual fund gift. Actual tuition costs are $13,400 for 2010-2011, Bishop covers $1000 of the tuition. The “gap” fund comes out of the operating budget. The Annual Fund gifts will go directly to support the gap and every aspect of life at Bishop High. Therefore, a charitable tax deductible annual fund gift gives the best opportunity for all including other constituents to support our efforts at Bishop.
Why not just raise tuition, rather than solicit gifts?
Although raising tuition is necessary each year, and would generate a certain level of revenue, we know it will not solve the on-going needs the school faces. The Annual Fund gives opportunities for all constituencies: parents, alumni, grandparents, and friends of Bishop to support the mission of the school at a level they feel comfortable through their annual gift. It also provides a tax deductible charitable gift opportunity for each donor.
Isn’t my support of the fundraisers enough?
The monies raised through fundraisers, such as the Cardinal Club event in the fall support athletics and the Gala Auction support the Adopt-A-Student Program. The fundraisers are important to the commitment of those designated programs, but do not offer enough support to meet what we are tying to accomplish for our children at Bishop.
