Thursday, May 27, 2009 students, faculty, staff and alumni gathered in the main gym of Bishop High School. Bishop Thomas J. Curry from the Santa Barbara Pastoral Region presided at the Mass. The school and Alumni Association honored three alumni for their dedication to Bishop and work with local and international organizations and communities.
Michele Herrera ’84 Vice President of the Alumni Association welcomed everyone to this yearly celebration. Joni Galvan ’81 (who received a huge applause from many of her former students from St. Raphael’s) expressed her love and admiration for her sister Patty Charest ’77 and her brother-in-law Michel Charest ’75 who were each honored receiving the 2009 Outstanding Alumni of the Year.
Patty Charest ’77, President of the Alumni Association introduced the winner of the Humanitarian Award for 2009. Benjamin Williams ’97 received this award for his work in El Pital, El Salvador. Ben was unable to attend this award ceremony; however his parents Vern and Mary Jo ’70 Williams accepted the award on Ben’s behalf.
Following the award presentation, the alumni and their families gathered in the library for a luncheon. The luncheon is planned yearly by Dee ’53 and Bill Faulding with help from Arlene Figone ’60 and Mike Morando ’55. There were many familiar faces who attended the award celebration and luncheon: John ’64 and Mary Ann Gherini ’65, Peter DaRos ’68, Peter ’72 and Ruth ’73 Georgi, Tim Tremblay ’71, Suzanne Michaud ’70, Charles Roberts ’66 and Kelly Charest ’05 among other family and friends who gathered to share this special Cardinal moment with our winners.
