The Bishop Garcia Diego Library Media Center was completely remodeled and refurnished in the summer of 2000. It has become a center for students to meet and discuss assignments, do research, relax and read, and use the recently upgraded computer laboratory. Available to the entire Bishop community is a professional full-time librarian, roughly 6,000 print items, multiple informational databases and a fully automated catalog system. New items are added to the collection throughout the year as the school continues to improve and update the materials available. The library is open from 7:20-4:00 daily. Tutors are available after school throughout the year with no cost to the student. Private tutors may meet in the library during regularly scheduled hours.
The student computer lab consists of 18 personal computers running Windows XP. These computers provide access to the Microsoft suite of programs, the Internet, library catalog and several research databases, along with other software. Printing is free.
Electronic resources available from any computer on campus or from home include Maps101, Gale's Virtual Reference Library and Proquest's e-Library which provides access to newspapers, magazines, television and radio transcripts, reference books and more.
In addition to providing informational resources and services, the library sponsors educational games, competitions and programs. These have included a Civil Rights Trivia game, a school-wide Chess Tournament, and the annual celebration of National Poetry Month in April. This month-long celebration includes guest poets who visit campus and share their art, a poetry competition and open mic opportunities for students to share their own poetry.
