Department Philosophy:
The English Department recognizes the need to develop students emotionally, socially, and spiritually, and therefore shares concurrent goals with those of Catholic education.

In the area of English, writing and literature will become tools to be used toward embracing self-identity and fairness, of compassionately understanding human nature, and of seeking out truth.

Courses that combine literature and composition as a means of self-discovery and awareness are offered. The sequential nature of this program, which stresses basic skills, grammar, clarity, organization, and development, equips students with the tools they need to communicate in written and spoken language in a clear, original, and persuasive manner. Basic reading and writing skills take priority in all levels of study. Courses in speech and drama are offered.
